SCORM Course Export — Admin Guide

SCORM Course Export — Admin Guide

This article explains how administrators can export a published course from GTM Buddy as a SCORM package and use it in their own Learning Management System (LMS).

Overview

SCORM is a standard package format for online courses. The Export as SCORM action creates a single .zip file from a GTM Buddy course. You can upload this file to any LMS that accepts SCORM 1.2 packages, such as Cornerstone, Docebo, SAP SuccessFactors, or Workday.

The package is self-contained. Lesson text, images, videos, documents, Knowledge Checks, and assessments are all bundled in, so learners do not need a GTM Buddy login to take the course. Learners complete the course inside your LMS, and their completion status and score are reported to that LMS like any other course in your catalog.

A few features that need the live GTM Buddy platform, such as AI Roleplay and Pitch assessments, cannot be completed in an exported course. The export still succeeds, and these items are flagged on the export screen. See Content with Limitations below.

ℹ️ Note: Only published courses can be exported. A draft course has no finalized content to package. If the export option is not working for a course, publish the course first.

Prerequisites

  • Admin access in GTM Buddy

  • A published course in Learning → All Programs

  • Admin access to your LMS, with permission to upload SCORM 1.2 packages

  • Recommended: review the course for AI Roleplay, Pitch assessments, or imported SCORM content before exporting (see Content with Limitations)

Exporting a Course as SCORM

Step 1: Open the Export as SCORM Action

The Export as SCORM action is available in three places. All three produce the same package, so use whichever is most convenient.

Option A: From the course list

  1. Go to Learning → All Programs.

  2. On the course row, open the Actions (⋮) menu.

  3. Click Export as SCORM. It appears near the bottom of the menu.

Option B: From the course overview page
  1. Open the course to view its overview and analytics page.

  2. Click the ⋮ menu next to the Edit button in the page header.

  3. Click Export as SCORM.

Option C: From the course builder

  1. Open the course in edit mode.

  2. Click the ⋮ menu in the top-right toolbar, between Preview and Next.

  3. Click Export as SCORM.

Step 2: Review Flagged Content on the Export Screen
  • If the course contains content that cannot run inside a SCORM package, the export screen flags it so you know what learners can and cannot do in your LMS.

  • Review the flagged items before you continue. Remove or replace them if your learners must complete every item in your LMS.

Step 3: Download the SCORM Package
  • Confirm the export to generate the SCORM 1.2 package as a .zip file.

[MISSING: How the package is delivered — direct browser download or notification/email when ready — plus typical generation time for large courses and the default file name format]

Step 4: Upload the Package to Your LMS

  • In your LMS, create a new course or content item and upload the .zip file as a SCORM 1.2 package.

  • Assign the course to learners using your LMS’s standard enrollment process.

ℹ️ Note: Upload steps differ between LMS platforms. Refer to your LMS documentation for the exact steps to import a SCORM 1.2 package.

What’s Included in the Export

Everything a learner sees in a GTM Buddy lesson is bundled into the package. Content is displayed to look and behave as it does in GTM Buddy, and quizzes are interactive and scored automatically.

Progress, Reporting, and Branding

  • Saved progress: Learners’ answers are saved. They can close the course and resume where they left off.

  • Completion: Course completion is reported to your LMS.

  • Score: The learner’s score is reported to your LMS.

  • Branding: The course’s brand colors and fonts are kept.

Content with Limitations

A SCORM package runs inside another LMS, so features that need the live GTM Buddy platform cannot run there. Plan for these before you share the package.

Feature

What happens in the exported course

AI Roleplay

The interactive AI Roleplay cannot run in the SCORM package. The AI Roleplay is shown to learners as a prompt.

Pitch assessments (audio/video submission)

Learners cannot record or submit a pitch in the SCORM package. The Practice is shown to learners as a prompt.

Free Response and Checklist answers

Shown to learners, but not scored automatically in your LMS.

Imported SCORM content

Content that was itself imported as a SCORM package cannot be exported again as SCORM.

ℹ️ Note: If a course contains AI Roleplay or Pitch assessments, the export still succeeds. These items are flagged on the export screen so you know what a learner will and wonʼt be able to do in the customerʼs LMS and you can decide how to handle them.

Validation

After uploading the package to your LMS, confirm the export works as expected:

  1. Enroll a test learner in the course in your LMS and launch it.

  2. Open lessons with videos, documents, and GPages. Confirm that each one loads and plays.

  3. Answer a Knowledge Check or assessment question. Close the course, relaunch it, and confirm your answer was saved.

  4. Complete the course. In your LMS reports, confirm that the completion status and score were recorded.

Successful state: All content loads, progress is restored on relaunch, and your LMS shows the learner as complete with a score.

If content does not load or results are not reported, check that the package was uploaded as SCORM 1.2. If the issue continues, contact your Customer Success Manager or GTM Buddy Support.

FAQs

Q: Why can’t I export a course?

A: The course is most likely still a draft. Only published courses can be exported. Publish the course, then try again.

Q: Do learners need a GTM Buddy account to take the exported course?

A: No. The package is self-contained, so learners take the course entirely inside your LMS.

Q: Which SCORM version does the export use?

A: SCORM 1.2. Confirm that your LMS accepts SCORM 1.2 packages before uploading.

Q: Can I export a course that I imported as a SCORM package?

A: No. Imported SCORM content cannot be exported again as SCORM.

Q: If I edit the course in GTM Buddy, does the exported package update automatically?

A: [MISSING: Confirm whether changes require a new export and re-upload to the LMS]

Q: Do learner results from my LMS appear in GTM Buddy analytics?

A: [MISSING: Confirm whether completion and score data from the external LMS are visible in GTM Buddy course analytics]
